WARBIRD RIDE DAY & OPEN HOUSE
Saturday, September 18, 2010!
The Rocky Mountain Wing of the Commemorative Air Force will celebrate 25 years in Grand Junction with a museum Open House and Warbird Rides day on Saturday September 18, 2010, 9:00am to 4:00pm at the airport.
Now offering WWII warbird rides -
you can fly in a historical warbird!
Check our online
Tour Schedule for a location near you
where we will be attending an air show or airport open house event.
Otherwise warbird rides are available at our WWII museum
located at the Grand Junction, Colorado airport.
Generally speaking, our operational costs prohibit flying to
your location in order to offer just one ride.
This restored, historical TBF/TBM "Avenger" is
now available for your event!
VERY popular due to its uniquely folding wings and huge size (largest single-engined aircraft used in WWII)
A rare flying museum exhibit that allows the public to walk on sturdy, safe steps over the wings to view pilot
& turret gunner crew stations
Historically significant carrier-based aircraft used in both Atlantic and Pacific theaters of WWII, the Korean conflict, and beyond.
This aircraft type was flown by President George H. W. Bush when he was shot down - twice!
Five TBMs in Flight 19 were lost in the "Bermuda Triangle" in December, 1945.
This very aircraft was used in the recreation filming of "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind"
- a flying movie star!
Click the button above to play TBM information video. Note the aircraft shown is not ours, but ours is very much like it.
The Commemorative Air Force Goals:
To acquire, restore, and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States, and selected aircraft of other nations, for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans.
To construct or obtain museum buildings for the permanent protection, maintenance, and display of these historic aircraft, period artifacts, and documents as a tribute to the thousands of men and women who built, serviced, and flew them and to build and organize the "Combat Airman Hall of Fame."
To perpetuate the spirit in which such combat aircraft were flown in the defense of our nation, in the memory and hearts of all Americans.
To establish an organization having the dedication, enthusiasm, and Esprit de Corps necessary to operate, maintain, and preserve these aircraft as symbols of our American Military Aviation Heritage.
To receive gifts, legacies, and grants of money and property of every kind and to administer the same for the purposes herein stated, and to do anything necessary or proper for the accomplishment of these purposes; to lease, purchase, hold, have, use, and take possession of and enjoy fee simple or otherwise any personal and real property necessary for the uses and purposes of the corporations; and to sell, lease, alienate, or dispose of the same at the pleasure of the corporation and for the uses and purposes for which said corporation is formed; and to buy and sell real or personal property and to apply the proceeds of sale, including any and all income, to the uses and purposes of the corporation.
